A Sack of Beans or a Field of Dreams?
It sounds like the beginning of a poem but it is a real question when we consider how best to help hungry people. The immediate answer is obvious and we have taken that course this season to make sure that every vulnerable family that we know will make it through to harvest with food in their stomachs. However, we also want to think about the long term answer and how we help families who are cash strapped and sell or rent out their little bit of land to the big sugar cane producers.
A friend of ours suggested the name "DIGNITY" for the first field we buy to help families long term. We are not yet clear as to how this will work out but we know that we are heading in the right direction. This is God's heart for us all, that we would be dignified and live well, and if we can help some of our friends enjoy a little dignity rather than year in, year out join a queue for hand outs we will have done a good thing. We are still dreaming ourselves as we wait to hear more from God but we are beginning to look for fields...
