Stepping into Kenya Part 1

Jenny Hurrell joined me on a short but packed trip to Kenya. Through Kenyan links with the local churches in Uganda, we met up with Rachel Masiga who introduced us to the slums of Nairobi and how God is working there one family at a time. Later on ABC Kenya hosted us along with a Catch the Fire Team from Iceland.

To be very honest, if you did not see the value of "little by little" and "stopping for the one" you may find the slums totally overwhelming. They are filthy and raw sewage flows through each narrow alley between the iron sheet rooms that try to hold growing families. Water is expensive and toilets seem rare along with electricity and any feeling of peace and well-being.

In this setting we found openness and warmth as hard-pressed mothers, often abandoned by their husbands, desperately reached out to Jesus for help. He simply cannot resist their simple faith and we saw individuals come to faith for the first time, several were filled with the Holy Spirit and set free from all sorts of oppressions and difficulties. Practically we were also able to bless those we visited with food and in many cases we helped with school fees for children who otherwise had no hope. God's love always expresses itself tangibly when His people are willing to offer their hands and feet. It was a real privilege to be with so many willing children of God on this trip... Debbie
