Chickens and Eggs... 19th February 2013

Twenty-two happy children have just been given a wonderful start to the year. Rashid, one of the headmasters that we work with, shared with us his concern for some of the more vulnerable children in his school. These were boys and girls who had lost one or both parents to AIDS or prison or drunkenness. He wondered whether raising chickens could be a means of helping them. This idea was considered and developed into a pilot scheme whereby the children themselves have been trained to care for the chickens and to become egg sellers. We are in the early days of the pilot so there will be lots more to share in the days to come.
