Waiting for the rains... 7th March 2013

Moses has been working hard to prepare our test plots at Mirembe in our efforts to find a better way to farm for our friends. The idea is simply to increase the yield, using a method known as Farming God's Way (FGW) and so stop children getting hungry! In preparation for the rains, which should come in the next couple of weeks, the ground for both the FGW test plot and the ‘Traditional’ farming test plots is now prepared – the FGW plot (left) looks more messy, but that’s because this method preserves the blanket of vegetation which conserves moisture, prevents water run-off and soil erosion and helps prevent pest attack. We expect to be able to plant as soon as the rains are reliable – we are praying for a bumper harvest and physical proof that this method works better than traditional farming. We are also putting up fencing around the remainder of Mirembe base to prevent animals (or people!) eating the crops!
